Common Types of Cockroaches in Our Area
In the South Sound area, the most common types of cockroaches we see while doing pest management are:
German Cockroaches: These are the most common indoor roaches. They are small, light brown, and have two dark stripes behind their heads. German cockroaches are usually found in kitchens and bathrooms because they like warmth, moisture, and food.
American Cockroaches: These guys are large, reddish-brown and grow over an inch long. They’re sometimes called “water bugs” or “palmetto bugs,” usually in the Southern states. In our area, they’re found in basements, crawlspaces, sewer systems, and commercial buildings.
Brown-Banded Cockroaches: These roaches are smaller and lighter in color, with faint bands across their bodies. Unlike other species, they prefer drier areas and may be found in bedrooms or closets. Sometimes they find their way inside the warm guts of electronics.
